🚲🚲 SEIZED ELECTRIC " MODIFIED" BIKE 🚲🚲

Welcome to all our new users to Derbyshire Alert.

There has been several reports over the last few days, whereby anti-social riding of illegal E-Bikes, mainly around Swadlincote area of Newhall, but also around Dracan Village. 

Whilst PCSO Hawksworth was out on patrol with PCSO Hodgkindon, they sighted an illegal E-Bike speeding eratically across Newhall Park.

Officers Holmes-Small and Officer Thompson located the E-Bike nearby and seized it under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act, as this E-Bike was found to be adapted/ modified.

An E-Bike also known as an Electric-Bike, or an electrically assisted pedal cycle, can also be ridden without a licence or insurance IF you are 14 years old or over and meet the following criteria/requirements by Law.

⚠️⚠️. MUST have pedals that you can use to propel it.

⚠️⚠️. CAN have more than two wheels, for example a tricycle.

⚠️⚠️. MUST have an electric motor that can run continuously at a MAXIMUM power of NO MORE than 250 watts.

⚠️⚠️. MUST have NO electrical assistance once you reach 15.5 MPH ( Miles Per Hour )

If your Electric Bike ( E-Bike) fails to meet any of these requirements then it needs to be taxed and insured like a Motorcycle or a Moped, otherwise it will be seized.
